The Setting: a sprawling glass-walled conference room on the 14th floor of a sleek downtown Tacoma building. The client? A financial services firm that swore their team could “crunch numbers faster than a calculator” but froze like deer in headlights whenever asked to communicate under pressure. Their challenge: people working in silos, passing information with the grace of a game of telephone gone horribly wrong.

Enter our improv dream team. Thirty-five participants, two instructors, and a mission to turn rigid workflows into lightning-fast, human-centered collaboration.

We kicked off with our exercise “You” — which sounds simple enough until you realize it’s a stealthy mental ninja workout disguised as a children’s game. By the end, the team was laughing, spinning, switching spots, closing eyes, and somehow keeping three simultaneous patterns going while still breathing (mostly). Suddenly, the office’s most “serious” analyst was grinning ear to ear, and the usual quiet types were shouting “string beans!” with the kind of confidence usually reserved for championship sports victories.

The payoff? They left with faster response times, sharper focus under shifting circumstances, and — most importantly — a habit of listening for real. It wasn’t just about speed; it was about staying connected even when the room was moving, the patterns were changing, and your brain was saying, “Uh, are we sure this is possible?”

We serve the greater Tacoma area, including Downtown Tacoma, Stadium District, Proctor District, Old Town, Hilltop, North End, New Tacoma, Browns Point, Ruston, Fircrest, University Place, West End, Point Defiance

Hotel Murano

1320 Broadway Plaza
Tacoma, WA 98402

(253) 238-8000
www.hotelmuranotacoma.com

Step inside Hotel Murano and you’re instantly in a parallel universe where Scandinavian chic has an intense crush on glass art and they’ve just eloped to Tacoma. The lobby? Oh, just a casual glass sculpture wonderland that makes you question whether you’re networking or starring in a modern art heist movie. The event spaces are the Goldilocks of meeting rooms: tiny, cozy boardrooms for your “shhh, it’s confidential” chats, all the way up to a 6,000-square-foot ballroom so vast you could hold a summit, a concert, and a small moon landing — at the same time.

Breakouts? They’ve got more side rooms than your aunt’s Victorian mansion, each one armed to the teeth with AV tech so slick it practically clicks “next slide” for you. Catering? Oh, honey, they’ll serve whatever your heart (and HR) desires, from high-octane espresso breaks to plated dinners so fancy you’ll instinctively sit up straighter.

And when you’ve nailed that last PowerPoint, you’re steps away from the Museum of Glass, the shimmering waterfront, or at least twelve restaurants where you can debrief over craft cocktails and deep-fried genius.

This is not a hotel. This is a high-style, art-soaked playground for grown-up professionals who want their corporate events with a side of “I can’t believe this is my job.”

Silver Cloud Hotel Tacoma Waterfront

2317 N Ruston Way
Tacoma, WA 98402

(253) 272-1300
www.silvercloud.com

Perched right on the edge of Commencement Bay, Silver Cloud offers a meeting experience with front-row seats to the Puget Sound. Event spaces here are smaller and more intimate — think leadership retreats, executive summits, or high-focus training days. Every room comes with floor-to-ceiling windows so your PowerPoint has to compete with actual orcas sometimes passing by (good luck with that). The hotel’s location is a huge bonus — attendees can stroll the Ruston Way waterfront trail, grab coffee at a local roaster, or unwind with fresh seafood right next door. Parking is free, which in the corporate event world is like finding gold.

Courtyard by Marriott Tacoma Downtown

1515 Commerce Street
Tacoma, WA 98402

(253) 591-9100

If your team needs a central hub with plug-and-play meeting spaces, the Courtyard delivers. Located right in the Theater District, it’s attached to the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, giving you flexible options for groups from 10 to hundreds. Rooms are sleek, modern, and wired for full AV setups. There’s a dedicated events team that somehow makes even last-minute changes feel painless. The lobby bar doubles as a casual meet-and-greet spot, and its proximity to museums, theaters, and breweries means your post-meeting options are endless. Bonus: the Link Light Rail stops right outside, making transit a breeze.

A Sample Improv Exercise!

Improv Exercise

YOU!

Alright, friends, time to step into the improv equivalent of juggling flaming swords while riding a unicycle — except safer and with way more giggles.

Step One: The Circle of Destiny.

Everyone raises their right hand like they’re swearing in for the Secret Society of Awesome. First person points to someone else with their hand up and says “you.” That person points to another “you,” and so on until everyone’s hand is down and the last person points back to the first. You’ve just created a perfect, unbreakable circle of human connection.

Step Two: Pattern Party.

Repeat until it’s silky smooth, then — plot twist — switch places. Same pattern. Then, close your eyes. Still the same pattern. Feel your brain rewiring itself? That’s teamwork getting speed-boosted.

Step Three: The Flavor Upgrade.

Raise those hands again. First person names something — favorite TV show, dream vacation, snack you’d fight a raccoon for. Only rule: you can’t point to the same person you did before. New pattern, new chaos.

Step Four: Pattern Fusion.

Now start with “you,” and add the second pattern. Suddenly you’re running two mental marathons at once, and it’s glorious.

Step Five: The Final Boss.

Feeling cocky? Add a third pattern. Switch places again. Close your eyes. At this point, your brain will be doing parkour while your mouth tries to keep up. It’s messy, it’s hilarious, and it’s secretly teaching you to stay cool when everything’s changing at once.
