Improv@Work

Here is a recap of a rocking "creative spark" session brought to life in Frisco’s bustling energy for a regional healthcare tech startup wanting to turbocharge communication and leadership vibes among its teams.
Group size: 25 professionals from engineering, product, and customer success—so we had two dynamic instructors juggling the joy and craft.
Soft‑skill goals: Boosting agile teamwork, heartfelt communication, playful leadership, bold creativity, and spicing up presentation skills.
Problem to solve: This group wanted to break free from virtual monotony and reboot their in‑person connection mojo.
Workshop breakdown:
Warm-up (yes, this exercise, “Coming Home”—because nothing says “team connection” like stepping into someone else’s shoes… or slippers).
Scene-building & team ensemble: Quickfire scenes centered on unexpected scenarios to flex creative muscles and agile reaction.
Improvised presentation pitch: Teams crafted short, on‑the‑fly tech product pitches—led by playful leadership and emotionally attuned delivery.
Debrief & aha sparks: How did stepping into the “after‑work self” crank up listening, empathy, and presence? What sticky teamwork moments emerged?
And the finale? Lights dim, everyone feels seen, heard, inspired—the energy is livewire and collaborative, more charged than a double espresso.

If corporate events had a royal palace, this would be it. The Omni Frisco isn’t just a hotel—it’s a powerhouse of possibility. We’re talking ballrooms so grand you half expect a red carpet to appear and breakout rooms so slick they practically brainstorm for you. The lobby? Sleek, chic, and begging for that “accidentally overheard your million-dollar idea” kind of networking. And when it’s showtime—this place flips from boardroom to ballroom faster than you can say “synergy.” Bonus perks: casual dining that feels anything but casual, lightning-fast meeting tech (bye-bye, awkward projector moments), and that golf-course energy that makes everyone feel like they just closed a deal—even if they’ve never swung a club. And it’s next to The Star, meaning your after-hours vibe can go from “conference badge” to “VIP sports lounge” in minutes.

This is where modern retreat meets executive-level glow-up. Sunlight pours into the event spaces like nature’s own spotlight, and those plush breakout rooms? They feel like someone designed them after reading your LinkedIn dreams. Need an intimate 50-person brainstorm with artisanal coffee breaks? Done. Want a ballroom that screams “launch party of the decade”? They’ll have the champagne on standby. Oh, and did I mention the serene golf-course views? They’re basically free therapy for stressed-out execs. When you step outside, you’re one shopping bag away from Stonebriar Centre, plus—you guessed it—instant access to golf greens for the deal-making stroll of legends.
Embassy Suites by Hilton Frisco

Some venues feel like business. This one feels like business and pleasure’s stylish love child. You get two-room suites so roomy they practically high-five you at the door, plus complimentary made-to-order breakfasts—because nothing bonds a team like swapping war stories over custom omelets. Their meeting rooms are flexible, functional, and designed to make even a quarterly budget review feel like a power move. Need mid-size training space? Team mixers? A catered networking happy hour? Yes, yes, and yes. At night, the social spaces turn into that “we should totally do this again” vibe factory. And location-wise—you’re smack in the middle of Frisco’s medical and financial hub, where ambition hums in the air like background jazz.
A Sample Improv Exercise!
COMING HOME
Hey you awesome human—ready to dive into this exquisite little game we call “Coming Home”? It's like sliding into someone else’s shoes… or maybe their slippers? Imagine this:
Prompt: “Think of someone you know—maybe your chatty work buddy, your sweet neighbor, or that quirky cousin. Now—play how that person would come home from work.”
Setup: Grab a slice of space in our improv playground—either you go solo in your zone, or we go round robin so everyone becomes a mini Broadway cast. No pressure, just glow-up energy.
Notice these juicy details:
The scene: What does their house look like? Ultra‑tidy blank slate? Piles of art supplies or laundry the size of a small mountain?
The routine: Do they change clothes, collapse into a chair, take a power shower, or crack open a cold one like it’s a medal ceremony?
The dinner moment: Are they microwaving yesterday’s leftovers, dialing for carryout, twirling a pizza box lid, or mindlessly spooning cornflakes like it’s a gourmet meal?
Mood check: Are they exhaling relief, vibrating with energy, or in “why‑is‑life‑like‑this” meltdown?
Work vibes: What was their workday served like? A deli tray of wins, a dumpster fire of chaos, or just a steady latte of routine?
Variations: Wanna shake it up? Try “Coming Home from vacation,” “Coming home from first date,” or “Coming home after saving the world (or Monday)!”
Picture yourself stepping in and becoming them—channeling their rhythm, their sigh, their “I’m home!” moment with tenderness, humor, and full-on theatrical flair. A little writing-worthy theater in your everyday life.
